Carl the Cyborg is the second robot created by Scooter Williams and the main subject in Robby's Rival. Carl and Robby hate each other very much and he is one of the main antagonists in the series. Scooter created Carl as an another robot but not as a replacement to Robby, which Robby misunderstood at first.

Carl said that his main purpose was to be another butler to Scooter and not a replacement. However, Carl's true plan was to destroy Robby once and for all and take his place. Despite his presumed end in his first appearance, he will re-appear in Opposites Attack, where he teams up with evil versions of Matt, Jim, and Scooter.

Background

Carl made his first appearance in Robby's Rival, where Scooter presented him to Matt, Jim, and Robby. Robby became jealous and later confronted Carl to tell him that he will never replace him as Scooter's butler. Carl tells Robby that he is not trying to replace Robby then but he is trying to destroy Robby and by that time, Carl will already have replaced Robby. Robby runs to tell Scooter, only to have Scooter distracted by Carl's talents. Carl then captures Robby and releases him in the garbage. After Scooter discovers where Robby is located, he drops Carl off into Antarctica. The story ends with Carl trying find directions to Dayon by asking a penguin.

Appearance

Carl's appearance is almost the exact opposite's of Robby. Robby is very small while Carl is taller than the main characters. Carl is gold, has red eyes, white mouth, long arms, and long legs, while Robby is silver, has white eyes, a yellow mouth, short arms, and a small conveyor belt under his torso. Carl also has an antenna sticking out of his head, which Robby originally had.

Concept and creation

Carl was created very fast in the process of writing Robby's Rival. His name was meant to sound similar to Robby's and he was designed by three different influences:
